3 Problems Which May Require A Root Canal
This post from Town Dental Group in Mint Hill is about root canals. Root canal can strike fear in dental patients, but it helps to know what is happening during this anxiety-inducing, though routine, procedure.
At the center of each tooth is tissue called the pulp. The tissue can be compromised by one of the following:
- A very deep cavity
- An injury to the tooth
- A crack in the tooth
If this tissue becomes damaged or infected, it can build up at the root tip inside the jawbone and form an abscess. Left untreated, this can actually destroy the bone around the tooth and cause serious discomfort
When we perform a root canal, the damaged pulp is removed. The space that is left is cleaned and then it is shaped and filled. This eliminates the need for a diseased tooth to be pulled.
Root canals sound scary, but they’ve come a long way in recent years; in most cases they’re about like getting a cavity filled. We perform root canals at Town Dental Group in Mint Hill, and provide many other services, including children’s dentistry. Schedule an appointment today.
